I am astounded that he could have read "The Dream that was America.." and respond with a commercial for Communism. The problem is you make the assumption that everything was okay until 20 years ago. If it were only true. Our public school system, the income tax, welfare/warfare state, etc., are all part of the tyranny we are now facing. The first brick was laid long before the Cold War. We are only now getting to point of now return.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6768309175896429868.post-24893715974243851402007-11-02T19:59:00.000-04:002007-11-02T19:59:00.000-04:00Very nice opinion piece. I...You are right about the present state of things. I live in Denmark which still enjoys a relatively free speach, still interesting media with possibility of dissent and generally is a harmonious, even egalitarian society. Most pay an income tax of well over 50% knowing that it is being used by a our benevolent state and local governments. Most people are satisfied with their lives, really.
People have strong political opinions and there is real choice at elections. Unfortunately, the political interest is mostly in local and national issues. The peril of American tyranny is not what people talk about at lunches, even though most hate US policies. So, not only Americans are reluctant to fight for broader political issues like the creeping American tyranny in the world and such.

What I am going to say is, that well fed people everywhere are risk-aversive and more or less narrow minded. Even US Constitution was not written by a million enlightened Citizens. So, realistically, you have always at best a broad-based oligarchy, never a true democracy, and popular political protests need good heads to lead them. You have still in the US a relatively well-fed populus and very scattered Enlightened nuclei. Even with the help of internet, the chance to topple the all-powerful Establishment is nil. Your Elite/State has never been so powerful and omniscent as it is now. I am really worried...

Concerning USSR: I had an opportunity of tasting the System myself having lived in communist Poland the irst 27 ys of my life. It wasn´t that bad, though. Life was relatively good and safe for great majority of people. No luxuries and deli for most but pretty egalitarian and I wouldn´t trade my childhood with anybodys (my Parents had university education but no party-membership or "contacts"). You couldn´t go to Party HQ and shout "down with Lenin" but nobody was afraid of one´s neighbor or the police. No Paradise but pretty happy existence, I should say.

Sincerely,
Pierdziuszko, js11pl@yahoo.dkAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6768309175896429868.post-56114725417320868892007-11-02T16:09:00.000-04:002007-11-02T16:09:00.000-04:00And if I may add another feature of The Evil Empir...And if I may add another feature of The Evil Empire.that is a part of American life ..we now are, and for some time have been, governed by "soviets". That is what DIALOGUING TO CONSENSUS is. This evil is what children are trained to do in the government brain laundries. Using DIAPRAX (Google it) children, and adults are trained to take part in the Dialectic and to train others to also take part.
DIAPRAX - A diverse group of people (holding differing views) dialoguing to consensus (let's put aside our differences for the sake of the good of all) over a social issue (could be zoning, birth control pills for 10-year-olds in school)with the aid of a FACILITATOR ( who usually knows what the agenda really is) AND A PRE-DETERMINED OUTCOME. The sheeple don't know they're's a pre-determined outcome. They think they all came up with it at their group meeting (consensus-making farce). Interesting that all Americans are being manipulated by Hegel's Dialectic but practically no American has ever heard of it. Only the change-agents know about it.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04252428177598567258noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6768309175896429868.post-7282896446425358462007-11-02T15:02:00.000-04:002007-11-02T15:02:00.000-04:00Excellent. Watching Gladiator, it is easy...So, what do we do? Watching Gladiator, it is easy to wonder "Why am I not Maximus?" Maximus physically resisted tyranny, the state came for hiim and he fought, then ran. Most of us don't do this when the state comes for us. Why not?

I submit that we live in a historically unique time. For perhaps the first time (certainly the first that I know of) there is almost no resistance to tyranny, including internal. Even privately, the victims of all this cheer it on, even in their own minds. Why is this? Americans are fat and stupid. Most Americans take drugs designed to slow their cognitive functions and make them more obedient - and they pay dearly for these very drugs! Respected authorities, doctors, tell us every day that dislike for tyranny is mental illness, and so we have purged ourselves of this illness. Most Americans go days or weeks without ever eating real food - what is the effect on the power of thought of eating more sugar each day than any other culture ate in a year? I know only how much clearer the head is on a low-carb diet, or even a no-sugar diet. Did our Food Pyramid contribute to our acceptance of totalitarianism? Of course, I need only say the words "public schools" to name what is perhaps the biggest influence. Have a conversation with 10 random people, and ask yourself how many are capable of reasoning at the level of a 5th grader in days gone by. How many really grasp the idea of a syllogism? How many are capable of abstract thought - and how many are so tied to the concrete that "freedom" means only "whatever America does?" So, physical resistance is doomed, because you have to deal not just with the state, but with all your neighbors who will hate you for trying to free them. Fighting back, at risk to yourself, only makes sense if the country longs to break free, if the only bind the state has on the people is physical. This isn't the case now.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6768309175896429868.post-70159505666730939252007-11-02T09:19:00.000-04:002007-11-02T09:19:00.000-04:00I enjoyed your column very much, although I would ...I enjoyed your column very much, although I would submit that the dam has already broken for America and that the current administration is merely the latest example of a government that has been operating beyond the Constitution for some time.
